"Claudia had received a broken pelvis bone while stepping off a streetcar on the way home from a dance. She was awarded $3,000 in insurance from Wm. Sembach, driver of the car.
Claudia had gone to the dance with her sister Ruth. She was hit when they got off the street car. Since the family did not own a car, Mama and Papa allowed her to buy the pony and cart to get around. She was 18 or 19 at the time."
Written on the back of the photograph by her sister, Martha Ochsner.
Since Claudia was born September 06, 1896, this photograph was taken circa 1915.
At that time, there were few automobiles and paved roads in Syracuse, and the country was entering World War I.
