Reportedly from Tyrol, Austria with title of Count. Met Barbara in Oberhallau, Switzerland. For financial and religion reasons (he was Catholic and Barbara Protestant) could not marry officially.
Anton Sutterleuthi was the father of Oscar Ochsner, Barbra Ochsner's eldest child. He Immigrated to Syracuse, New York in the early 1870's where he worked as a musician. He sent money to support Barbara and the boys and their education. He wanted family to come to America but Barbara would not leave Switzerland. Sent money for boys to immigrate to America. Anton subsequently remarried in America, moved to St.Louis, Missouri. Nothing further is known of him.
Family legend says he was a traveling musician; you can see his hands on a zither in the photograph. Oscar built a similar zither when he was about 16, and which was kept in Oscar and Sarah's home in Syracuse.
