Through the years there has been much discussion and speculatio n concerning the paternal ancestry of Barbara's four sons (on e died as a child in Switzerland). For unknown reasons, any know ledge the boys may have had about their fathers was not passed d own. It should also be noted that Barbara saw only her son Emi l (and his spouse Mina) and grandson Eugene after her three son s emigrated to America. In early 2003, however, a professional g enealogist in Switzerland, based on church records in Oberhallau , has determined that Emil, Oscar, and Jacob each had a differen t father. Two of the fathers are named in the records but the th ird is unnamed. The results of this disclosure are shown in thi s family tree.
About 1880, apparently after Anton emigrated to America, Barbar a left Oberhallau and went to work for Dr. Eduard Bringolf in Un terhallau (Hallau). After Eduard died she worked for his brothe r and later for the younger family Bringolf-Rahm for several yea rs. Finally, she was employed by the family von Arx-Bringolf. Sh e worked for two generations in each of these families for abou t fifty years. She was loved and estimed by everyone and describ ed as silent, peacable, diligent and always very agreeable.
